The first road ride I did back in July on my R600 I got a flat. I was able to change the tube okay, but I was not able to pump up the tire (using the Wrench Force Micro frame pump that came with the bike). I have Tecno0024 rims (they have that triangular aero shape) that come standard on the R600, and when I bought tubes, they didn't have any of the long stems, so I got the normal stems. However, using my floor pump, I was able to inflate it without a problem. I chalked it up to not having done this in a long time with a new bike. Well, I flatted out again today, and the same thing happened - changed the tube without a problem, but I couldn't get the pump to work. I seem to be able to pump the tube when it's off the rim.
So my question is: am I just not getting enough of the stem through the rim (not sure I could do better w/ the tire on), or are these stems just too short to work with this pump? Thanks in advance, Jim. Pumps vary in how deep the valve has to be into the pump head before the head will grip the valve. Sometimes you can push the valve out into the rim through the tire far enough for the pump to grip (when the tire is flat) and then pump it up but occasionally the pumps just can't hold on and pop off, but usually you can get 60-80# in the tire before this happens. There are extenders but clearance in the rim can be a problem, or you may have to bite it and get tubes with longer stems. Tube makers are proud of these and like an extra buck or two for them.
Try some of your bike buds' frame pumps and see if one of them grips better-frame pumps are not all that much compared with tubes over the life of a wheel.

If you ride bicycles regularly, at some point you are going to need to refill a tire or a tire's inner-tube with a bicycle pump. Trek Bicycles makes a series of bicycle pumps under the Wrench Force brand. Over time, the pump's o-rings wear out, its handles get sticky, and its hoses crack, prompting the need for repairs.
The good news is a bicycle pump is simple in design, which makes it repairable in a home workshop.Difficulty:ModerateInstructions Things You'll Need Replacement o-rings Tweezers Replacement hose Adjustable wrench Spray-on dry lubricant Shop rags class='error'Open up the valve cap on the end of the hose using the adjustable wrench to unscrew it. Torque wrenches are indispensible when a bolt or screw must have a specific tightness but not be over tightened.
It is a tremendous help to know that the chances of stripping a bolt are drastically reduced when using a torque wrench correctly. While they are not always exactly accurate, since they cannot measure bolt tension or the amount of stretch in a bolt before failure, they do give close approximations and are far superior to guessing, when bolt tightness matters. The other reason they may be off slightly is that they need minor recalibration.Difficulty:ChallengingInstructions Things You'll Need Torque calibration machine Small flathead screwdriver New end cap. Ratchet wrenches are a standard tool in every mechanic's toolbox. Made in different drive sizes for heavy or lighter-duty uses, ratchets allow you to snap different-size sockets on the ratchet mechanism to remove or tighten bolts quickly.
Ratchets have a reverse lever to set the ratchet mechanism's pawls to tighten or loosen bolts while turning the wrench. The ratchet wrench works quicker than standard wrenches because it doesn't need to be reset on every turn. To repair a ratchet wrench, use the proper repair kit for your particular make and model.Difficulty:Moderately EasyInstructions Things You'll Need Ratchet wrench repair kit Small Phillips-head screwdriver Rags Clean. Bicycle wheels lose their shape whenever one or more spokes lose tension. Spoke tension maintains the wheel's shape, keeping the rim portion of the wheel centered directly over the hub.
When a spoke is loose, tension from opposing spokes pulls the rim away from the loose spoke, creating a section of rim that is bent or warped. A spoke wrench is used to tighten the loose spoke, restoring its tension and ultimately straightening the bent section of the wheel.Difficulty:Moderately EasyInstructions Things You'll Need Spoke wrench Turn the bicycle over and balance it on the saddle and handlebars. Before releasing the bicycle, be sure the handlebars are perfectly even. Flat tires are a fact of life in bicycling.
Spend enough time on the saddle and turning the cranks, and soon enough an inner tube goes flat. This requires a repair and inner tube inflation. Blackburn bicycle pumps fit the bill for inflating bicycle inner tubes. Blackburn pumps have multi-valve nozzles that can be used with both Schrader and Presta inner tube valves.Difficulty:Moderately EasyInstructions Blackburn Hand PumpsPush the Blackburn pump head lever up so it is perpendicular to the pump barrel. Unscrew the inner tube's valve cap. Push the pump head onto the inner tube valve.
Turn the selector dial on the pump to either the Schrader or Presta valve setting. Flip the pump lever b. Using the air pumps at a local gas station to fill your bike tires can be dangerous, as these machines could fill the tires so quickly that the tires literally explode. Instead, it's wise to use a pump made specifically for bicycles. Schwinn is a company that manufactures several different types of bicycle pumps.

Bike pumps can be a little bit confusing if you've never used them before, and you can actually damage your tire if you use the pump incorrectly.Difficulty:Moderately EasyInstructions Unscrew the cap from the valve on the bike tire you wish to inflate. If there is a nut on the valve as well, you will need to unscrew it before you attempt to use the Schwinn bicycle pump.
